Dr Gerrit Bos from the Class of 1992 attended Mentone Grammar from Years 4 – 12, where he was awarded a half scholarship from Headmaster Keith Jones.
He was a distinguished ALIA (Australian Library and Information Association) certified professional, and when not studying or working, Gerrit was a passionate creative writer for over half his life.
He completed his undergraduate degree at The University of Melbourne – graduating in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Philosophy. He moved to the Netherlands where he learned the language to such a level that he was accepted into Amsterdam University after completing the entrance exam in Dutch. He then spent time studying and working in England and the Netherlands.
Upon returning to Australia, Gerrit completed a Master of Information Management & Systems at Monash University. At the age of thirty, he returned to part-time study completing an additional Master of Arts (Writing) at Swinburne University of Technology in 2006, followed by a PhD in Writing, which he completed in 2014.
Gerrit spent his time lecturing, tutoring, and of course writing, successfully publishing a number of his books, poems and short stories.
His time at Mentone Grammar served him well with enduring friendships. He will be sorely missed by friends and family.
