Vale – Reg Mickelburough

Mentone Grammar mourns the passing of Reginald Mickelburough, a proud alumnus and cherished member of our community.

Reg joined Mentone Grammar in 1949, entering Year 4, and remained until 1955, completing Intermediate Form (equivalent to Year 10). During his time at the School, he distinguished himself as a talented athlete, earning Colours for Athletics in 1955, serving as Form Captain, Vice Captain of the Athletics Team, and representing the School in the First XI Cricket Team.

Beyond his school years, Reg remained deeply connected to the Mentonian community. He was a founding member of the Old Mentonians Cricket Club and a valued supporter of the Old Mentonians Football Club. His legacy continued through his family: sons Lee (Class of 1979) and Rex (Class of 1986), grandson Mathew (Class of 2012), and son-in-law Russell Macquire (Class of 1979), all of whom have contributed to the life of the School and its alumni network. Lee, Russell, and Nick Macquire also played and held leadership roles in the Old Mentonians Football Club.

Reg’s enduring commitment to sport, community, and family leaves a lasting legacy across three generations of Mickelburoughs at Mentone Grammar.
