Vale – John Timlin (Class of 1955)
11 MARCH 1938 – 25 SEPTEMBER 2026
The Mentone Grammar community is saddened to learn of the passing of John Timlin (Class of 1955), who passed away on 25 September 2026.
Born on 11 March 1938, John joined Mentone Grammar in 1946 as a Year 3 student and remained at the School for a decade, completing Year 12 in 1955.
John’s enthusiasm for sport was particularly evident on the football field. A committed player throughout his senior schooling, he was awarded Football Colours in 1954 and was a valued member of the First XVIII Football team in 1955.
He was also an accomplished boxer, winning his weight division in the School’s heavyweight boxing competition in 1954 and awarded the Boxing Cup. A fitting recognition of his talent and commitment to the sport.
Beyond his sporting pursuits, John was also actively involved in the broader life of the School. He served on the School Magazine Committee, reflecting a keen interest in writing and communication and demonstrating the well-rounded nature of his contribution to the Mentone Grammar community.
From his early years as a student through to his final year in 1955 and beyond, John forged a lifelong connection with the School. His achievements, participation and service form part of the rich history of our Mentonians community and remain a valued part of the School’s legacy.
We extend our sincere condolences to John’s family, friends, former classmates and all those who knew him.
