Golden Reunion: Class of 1976
On Friday 22 May 2026, the Class of 1976 came together at the beautiful Woodlands Golf Club to mark a truly special occasion – 50 years since leaving Mentone Grammar.
The evening was a celebration of much more than the passing of time. It was an opportunity to reconnect, reflect and honour the friendships, stories and shared experiences that have remained meaningful across five decades.
Set against the warm and welcoming backdrop of Woodlands Golf Club, guests enjoyed an evening filled with conversation, laughter and memories. The autumn setting added to the atmosphere, with the venue providing a relaxed and elegant space for classmates to gather, reminisce and celebrate this significant milestone.
Deputy Principal Jarrod O’Neill attended on behalf of the School and shared reflections on how much Mentone Grammar has changed since 1976. He noted that, at the time, there were approximately 956 boys enrolled at the School, compared with more than 2,100 students today in a thriving coeducational environment.
Jarrod also reflected on some of the sporting highlights from 1976, including one of the School’s most successful athletics seasons in years, with Mentone Grammar finishing third in the AGS competition. The swimming team was also celebrated as AGS Premiers for the 12th consecutive year, completing the season undefeated, while the tennis team achieved an undefeated season to become AGS Champions.
Mentonians Association President Jono Ponnusamy (Class of 2010) also joined the celebration and warmly acknowledged the Class of 1976 for their ongoing connection to the School community.
Throughout the evening, classmates shared stories of their School days, life beyond the gates and the many paths taken since graduation. For some, it was a chance to reconnect after many years apart; for others, it was a continuation of friendships that have endured since their time at Mentone Grammar.
As the night came to a close, guests left with renewed connections and fond memories of a milestone well celebrated. The Class of 1976 Golden Reunion was a wonderful reminder of the lasting strength of the Mentone Grammar community and the enduring bond shared by those who have helped shape its story.
