Mentone Grammar and The Mentonians Association are deeply saddened to acknowledge the passing of Lorna Clark, née McCallum, beloved wife of former Headmaster Neville Clark OAM and a cherished member of the Mentone Grammar community.
Lorna passed away at the Queen Victoria Nursing Home in Hobart on 28 December 2025.
Born in Scotland, Lorna attended Paisley Grammar School, where she distinguished herself both academically and through sport. She excelled in modern languages, played in the 1st XI Hockey, and was Girls’ Sprint and Long Jump Champion.
Lorna went on to study at the Glasgow College of Domestic Science before serving as Head of Domestic Science at Bell Baxter School in Cupar, Fife. In 1971, she married Neville Clark and later supported him in his boarding housemaster roles at both Geelong Grammar and Fettes College, Edinburgh.
During Neville’s 15 years at Mentone Grammar, Lorna was warmly connected to the life of the School. She also taught on occasion at Kilbreda College, where Sister Mary Dalton welcomed her to the staff as “a gift of the Holy Spirit”.
While raising her four children, Lorna gave Neville unwavering support and contributed generously to the School community, particularly through the Mothers’ Association, alongside many dedicated members, including her fellow Scot Anne Valatta.
Lorna was laid to rest in the Hobart Cemetery, where her favourite text is inscribed on her headstone:
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God” Romans 8:28
We extend our sincere condolences to Neville, their children, extended family and all who knew and loved Lorna.
